Choice Book Project Qt. 4

       I read the book Th1rteen R3asons Why by Jay Asher. The main character in this book is Clay Jensen. Clay is a brunette who is a freshman in high school. He went to the same school as the girl who committed suicide, Hannah Baker. Hannah sends 13 people tapes explainging that they are the reasons she killed herself. One of these people includes Clay. I think Clay is a shy, caring and a loving person.
       When they talk about Clay in the book, they say that he was always scared to ask out Hannah. She was popular and a lot of people liked her and he was frightened. They also said he didn't have as many friends. The friends he did have weren't as popular either. He thought if he did ask out Hannah she would reject him. This is why I think he is a shyer person.
       In the book they talked about Hannah and Clay being at the same party. A guy was trying to hit on Hannah and she tried to stop him, but he kept going. Hannah eventually got away from him. She ran into Clay and she told him what happened. Clay comforted her to make things better and he did. This shows that he is a very caring person.
       Later in the book when they talk about Hannah sending him the tapes, he said that he always loved and cared for her and that would never change. He wished she never committed suicide. One time Clay talked about how him and Hannah made out at a different party. She slapped him afterwards. He regretting doing that to her because he said he loved her and never wanted to hurt her. This is why I think he is a loving person.
      He always wanted to be there for Hannah even when he couldn't. He wasn't the main reason and as a matter of fact he wasn't a reason at all for her killing herself. She wanted to thank him for being one of the only people to care for him.
       There are many good qualities about Clay including shy, loving, and caring. Overall I think Clay is a very good person.



       I really enjoyed this book. There was nothing boring about it and always kept me interested to keep reading. I thought overall it was a really terrific book.
      It was interesting to read that she sent tapes to everybody explaining why she killed herself. They were the reasons she did and she wanted them to know that.
       I recommend this book to anybody that like teenage drama books. There is a lot in this book including Hannah killing herself because she thought nobody cared enough to stop her at all. There is a lot of drama about all the guys that hurt Hannah and what they tried to do with her. Clay was the best person in her life because he helped her through all her problems and comforted her a lot.
       The book wasn't boring because there was always something going on. They were always talking about Hannah's interesting life and why she killed herself. It's non-boring how she tells the people why she killed herself. Most of them started rumors about her. All of the people except Clay were horrific reasons why she killed herself.
       There are many reasons why I liked this book, but those were the main reasons. This book was very non-boring and interesting. Also I recommend this book to anyone who likes teen drama.

Choice Book Project Qt. 3

         I read the book The City of the Beasts by Isabel Allende.The main character of the novel is Alexander Cold. He is a 15-year-old glasses-wearing Californian who has become angry because his mother has cancer. He learns many things during the  very long course of the novel. At the beginning of the novel he is fussy, moody, thankful and childish.
        The reason he is fussy is because while his mother is getting treatment in Texas for cancer, Alex has to live with his father's mother. Alex thinks he is old enough to care for himself at fifteen and should just stay at home. He thinks nobody thinks he is mature or grown-up enough to stay by himself.
        The purpose for him being moody is because his mother has cancer and it has been putting lots of stress on him. Also because he does not get to go with his sisters to his other grandmother's house.
       The explanation for Alexander being childish is because he is upset he has to go live with his grandmother and that he is getting split from his sisters. Also because he thinks he is old enough to survive on his own and does not need to go live with his grandma.
       While he is in Amazon he learns many things. He learns to be thankful for all he has and to just wish the best for his mother. He also learns to be grateful for his grandmother and the adventures she has taken him on. Also that she would take him in while his mother is getting treated for cancer.
        Overall I think Alexander has many great qualities. The main reason why he has these qualities is because of his mother's cancer and her having to get treatment.
        At the end of the story Alex becomes thankful and happy. I think he ends up like this because he met his grandma and had fun getting to know her. Also because he had fun being there and his mom ending being just fine.
      He is thankful becasue he met his grandmother and she took him on an incredible journey.
      Alex is happy because he got an amazing journey and his mother ended up being fine after all.




        The point of view in this story was obviously the main character, Alexander. Alexander is the main character so they want to get his feelings and emotions on everything.
         I think they picked Alex because they wanted to see how he felt about everything including how he felt about his mom's cancer, moving in with his grandma and being apart from his sisters and parents. Also his adventure in the Amazon.
        They wanted his point of view on his mother having cancer and getting the treatment because they wanted to show the pain he was going through how his mother was ill and dying. Also that she wouldn't be in his life anymore if she died from the cancer and that treatment did not work.
       Another reason why is because they wanted to see what it was like to move in with his grandma. They mentioned earlier in the book that he barely knew her and they barely ever saw each other.Another reason why his parents moved him there was because they wanted Alex to get to know her better, which he did. They wanted to show it was getting to know her and the bond they began to have.
       Also they wanted to see how he felt when he was away from his parents and sisters. It showed that he got really lonely and had nobody to talk to. His grandmother never wanted to do anything he did, but his sisters would of.
       And lastly, his adventures in the Amazon. The author wanted to show the him having fun, being joyful and being scared in there. When his grandma took him into the forest she and the others were looking for a "beast." I would be pretty scared if they were looking for a creature that nobody even knew existed yet and they did not know anything about. The adventures he had in there would be fun and to see all the exotic animals and nature life. It also must have been joyful because he was getting to know his grandma and he was in the Amazon which is one of the biggest forests in the world.
        Like I said before, I really think in the end he did not regret going to his grandmother's and getting to know her ans seeing who she really was.

Choice Book Project Qt. 2

          I read the book Hoot. The main character's name is Roy. He is about 14 years old. Roy just moved from Montana. He just moved to Florida. This means he is the new kid which is never fun. I think Roy is a sociable, curious, brave and outgoing person.
        First, I think Roy is a sociable person because since he has been to so many schools he has to be sociable in order to make friends. In the book he later does make friends so that is why I think is very sociable.
        I also think Roy is a curious person. When he was riding on the bus to school one day he saw a boy running barefoot on the sidewalk alongside the bus. Roy wonders why he is barefoot and running alongside the bus. Later in the book Roy follows the boy and finds out the boy lives out behind a golf course in an abandoned boat. That is why I think he is so curious.
        He is also an outgoing person. Roy gets bullied at school all the time by somebody named Dana. He is always telling Dana to stop and not everybody can do that. Also Roy finds out the boy that was running alongside the bus is named Mullet Fingers. Roy finds out his sister goes to his school. Her name is Beatrice. One day he confronts Beatrice and asks her why her brother lives out in that boat. That takes an outgoing person to do that. I think Roy has many characteristics, but these were the ones the really described him.
       Lastly, I think Roy is a very brave person. One day when Roy was looking out the window to look at the barefoot kid Dana hit Roy's head against the window. Roy got angry and defended himself by breaking Dana's nose. Another way Roy is brave is when he standing in front of the construction machine to protect the owls. He is risking himself at juvie. Also because many times before Roy was trespassing on that property.
      This is why I think Roy is a sociable, curious, brave, and outgoing person.


         The main conflict was between Delinko/Mother Paula's Pancake House and Roy, Beatrice and Mullet Fingers. Another conflict was between Dana and Roy. When Roy first meets Beatrice and Mullet Fingers he discovers they have a love for owls. There is a construction site that is going to start building on an owl's borough and the kids find out. They constantly try to stop the company from building, but nothing seems to work. Nobody believes that the owls live where they are about to build. They try to convince them by taking pictures of the owls. Still, no one believes.
         One day, the day they start building Mother Paula's Pancake House is the day they try to prove to them that the owl's are there. They then lead a group of students to the job site to prove to them the owls exist and that the company has been dishonest. When the construction people come to work Mullet Fingers, Beatrice and Roy stand in front of the machine. They refuse to move so they go on with the construction. Then something amazing happens. The owls appear from under their boroughs.
         Everyone is amazed to see the owls and sorry for not believing the kids before. The main man who owns Mother Paula's Pancake House encourages keeping on with the construction and that the owls are no obstacle. Everybody then stops working on the site and says they will build somewhere else because the owls need a chance to live. The construction people stop trying to build there to save the owls.
         Delinko was the main cop watching the site because the kids kept trespassing. He started to believe the kids and was then against building there. I think Delinko was an obstacle at first, but then started to believe them. I think the main obstacle was the building of Mother Paula's Pancake House.
        Dana was an obstacle because he was always bullying Roy. He would always follow Roy to the building site too to see what he was up to. One day Roy found out Dana's weakness which is cigarettes. He told Dana that there were cigarettes where the building site was. Dana got caught by Delinko. Dana ended up in juvi. So now that Dana was out of the way Roy could go on with trying to stop them from building the pancake house. This is why I think Dana was also an obstacle.

Book Project Choice Book.

        I read the book Red Kayak. The main character's name is Brady. Brady is in 8th grade and 13 years old. He lives in Maryland by Chesapeake Bay; in the Eastern Shore. His neighbors are the DiAngelos. He has two friends named J.T and Digger. He seems like a shy person and is not very talkative. He is shy because he never mentioned other friends besides J.T. and Digger. Brady does not talk to anyone besides them. He is not a very outgoing person. In this story Brady wasn't doing very daring things and wasn't that brave. Brady is an outdoors kind of person who likes a challenge. I don't think he is a very confident person. The confidence is not strong in him, because he is always questioning what he does. For example he suspected that J.T and Digger had something to do with the sinking of the red kayak, but he did not want to say anything. He doesn't always know what to do for sure. He is a person that doesn't care what other people think about him. He is not insecure about himself. Brady just does not care. He can be self-centered at times, but not always. Brady tries to help others before himself. When J.T and Digger were in trouble he would always try to help before caring about himself. When he tried to save Ben's life he tried and tried and never gave up. That shows that he is very considerate and not self centered. After Ben died (the person whose life he tried to save), Ben's mom asked Brady for help. Ben's mom was lonely, so Brady wanted to help. Brady was happy to help and helped her almost every day. He never said no to her. I think Brady has a goal to be even more helpful. After the whole thing with Ben, he felt bad about that. So now he wants to prevent that from happening ever again. He didn't like the feeling of being a hero get taken away from him. It was like getting a medal taken away from him after he deserved to win. I think another goal Brady has is just to be a better person in general. I don't think he feels good at all about what he has done wrong. He especially feels bad about losing Ben. Even though losing Ben was not his fault. There are lots of good characteristics about Brady.

        The theme I think Brady learned was forget about the past. This is the future. He was so paranoid about losing Ben. He blamed himself for the whole thing. Like that he was the one that killed him and that he could have done more. Everyone kept telling him it wasn't his fault and to just forget about him. Ben was dying before he even came. Brady still kept thinking he should have come sooner. I can connect to this theme because I have felt bad about something I did and I wanted a redo. For example one time I accidentally scored for the other team on my goal. I felt really terrible and all I wanted to do was get taken out of the game. It felt like I had cost my team a win. Later in the game I luckily got my goal back, but I still felt super bad. I still felt terrible and lucky that I got that goal back. It was a horrible feeling. Another time I feel it was my fault was in softball. The bases were loaded with two outs and we were down by three. I struck out. I felt I had cost my team another loss. I now know what to do because of what happened. I know NOT to score on my own goal. I could have been wiser on the pitches I swung at. I learned to practice. The best you can do is forget about it and forgive yourself. You are a new person who looks to the future armed with knowledge of the past. There will be other games. Learn from your mistakes. Everybody makes them and nobody is perfect. I can't relate this situation to another book I've read off the top of my head, but there were situations like them. When you make a mistake all you can do is forget about what happened. It was a mistake, yes, but you can't change that. Don't be living with regret. If you keep looking back at your past you are missing out on your now. Forget the past. This is the future.

Memoir 2

      It was my first ever airplane trip and first ever time going to a different state. When we got to the gigantic airport I saw the humongous airplane outside and all I kept thinking was terrible things about the airplane. Like we were going to have a collision or something. We had been on the plane for about an hour then our pilot said we were going to have turbulence. I wasn't sure what that was, so in my mind I started going berserk. I asked my mom if we were going to be okay and she said yes then explained what turbulence was. The whole rest of the airplane trip. I knew we were going to be just excellent. That kind of stuff usually happens in the movies, right?

Memoir.

       Beep. Beep. Beep! We were in the championships! I have never got that far before. I was so happy. My heart was racing. Our season wasn't the best, but we actually made it. When I got to the final game, the championship game, I looked at the other team. They looked very skilled. But they also didn't look too hard to beat. We had played the team before and lost to them pretty badly, so my team didn't think we had a chance. The other team probably thought they were going to have another win against us.

        The whistle blew and the game started. I was in starting position. I heard the crowd roar as each team got the ball from each other. It made me very nervous. Both of the teams had really good shots but they were all blocked. That made me even more nervous. The first half was gone. Score: 0-0. The second half then started. Finally a girl on my team had a breakaway, just her and the goalie, she is the person who usually scored for us. She shot and scored! I felt a moment of relief. The other team looked and seemed angry. They had many other shots but none of them seemed to be enough.

         Beep. Beep. Beep! The final whistle blew and the game was over. For a second I thought there was another half or something, but I saw my whole team jumping up and down, screaming. Then I looked at the other team walk slow and sad back to their coach. I then started jumping up and down, screaming. It was so amazing. I couldn't believe it. We had actually won. I have never felt anything like this before. All the parents came over to congratulate the team. I felt so proud of myself and everyone else. We really came back.
